Daniel Lavelle is the City Councilman for the 6th District of the City of Pittsburgh which encompasses: Chateau, California-Kirkbride, Central Northside, Downtown, Fineview, the Hill District, Manchester, Mexican War Streets, Perry North and South, Uptown and parts of West and South Oakland. The district lies in the core of the City of Pittsburgh and the Southwestern Pennsylvania region. Councilman Lavelle was first sworn into office January of 2010 and sworn back in for a second term January of 2014. Councilman Lavelle is currently the chair of the Committee on Public Safety. Councilman Lavelle also serves on a number of boards including: the Urban Redevelopment Authority; the Downtown Community Development Corporation, Pittsburgh Community Services, Inc., Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, Riverlife, and the Regional Development Funding Corporation.

Councilman Lavelle’s recognitions include: One of Pittsburgh's 50 Finest in 2002, Pittsburgh Magazine’s 40 Under 40 in 2009, New Pittsburgh Couriers A Man of Excellence in 2010, the NAACP Bill Lych Political Courage Award in 2013 and the Iota Phi Foundation of Pittsburgh’s Omega Community Advocacy Award in 2016.

He is married to Rachel Riley-Lavelle and they are the proud parents of daughter Saniya and son Elijah. They reside in the Hill District.
